When the bandages come off, the world expects you to be grateful. Grateful to be alive. Grateful the worst is over. Grateful that the medical part, the surgeries, the dressing changes, the hospital visits is behind you. And you are grateful. Deeply. But gratitude and wholeness are not the same thing, and for most burn survivors, the removal of the last bandage is not a finish line.
